About

Same spot, same view. Yet always different.

For years, I have been passing across a bridge over the Slotervaart canal in Amsterdam, as i was cycling from my home to the office. Occasionally, I took a photo of the nice view along the water: it was the same yet always very different: the colors, the light, and the details of the scene were changing not just over the season, but over the very same day. It's never been exactly the same.

Then in December 2017, I have decided to document it more systematically. My plan was to take one photo every day, as long as I had a chance to get there. I also took an intentional decision not to mechanize this with a webcam, thus knowingly giving up on the option of taking the snapshot at exactly the same time of the day, with the fixed frame.

This way, it was also more personalized and in a way, also documented my own movements and whereabouts over the year: there were periods of time when I was not in town, due to work travel or holidays. I also have to admit that I missed an opportunity to capture the view two or three times when I was at home, but forgot or it was simply too late and the scene got too dark for the iPhone to capture anything.

At the end, I managed to take 250 photos over the course of a year. On this website, I am publishing a gallery and a time lapse video compiled of the sequence of these photos.

I appreciate if you like this, and if that is the case, please share around, and leave me your thoughts or comments bellow.
